Building Community Spirit: Our Annual Summer BBQ in Crawley

This year’s annual summer barbecue at our Crawley site was more than just an afternoon of food and fun. It was about bringing people together. With 2025 proving a demanding year for many families, the event offered a much-needed chance for children to spend time with friends and for parents to relax before the new school and work year begins.
Around 30 residents joined us, including plenty of children who brought energy and excitement to the day. The highlight came when a magician took to the stage at 2pm, entertaining with a lively mix of magic, dance, and bubbles. The laughter and joy were infectious, especially as the children chased balloons and bubbles across the site. Between performances, families enjoyed puzzles, games, books, and the open cabin space, before the afternoon closed with a light-hearted raffle featuring prizes such as a Rubik’s cube, UNO, and a deck of cards.
Despite a wet start to the day, the skies cleared just in time for the event. Residents commented on how enjoyable it was for the children to have such a memorable experience, and how much they appreciated the opportunity to come together as a community.
Events like this are only possible thanks to the dedication of our team. James not only managed the grill on the day but also purchased and prepared the food beforehand. Jack and Kobby were on hand to offer support throughout, and Steve played a vital role in helping everything run smoothly. A huge thank you to them all for making the day a success.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to our new Community Engagement Officer, Monique Arowojolu, for organising her first event with such enthusiasm and care. Monique summed it up perfectly when she said, “The British weather will always have a mind of its own – you can’t do anything about it, so don’t stress, just prepare.”
At Caridon, we know that strong communities are built on shared moments like these. Our summer barbecue was a reminder of the joy that comes from bringing people together, and we look forward to creating more opportunities for our residents to connect in the months ahead.
